Supporter of the environment
Val d’Isère Téléphériques has always been a staunch supporter of the environment, so receiving its Green Globe certification in Autumn 2016 was a well-deserved reward for its social, economical, cultural and environmental efforts. A yearly audit is carried out to ensure the certification criteria continue to be met, and in 2018, Green Globe renewed Val d’Isère Téléphériques’ certification.
Goal: to raise awareness to employees
Val d’Isère Téléphériques plays an important role in the local economy, employing some 215 seasonal staff every year. Because of its close proximity to the Vanoise National Park, it is particularly keen to inform its staff about sustainable development, as well as the importance of respecting fauna and flora.
In a bid to involve all employees, a tree was donated to each of them (through www.reforestaction.com) at the start of the 2018/2019 season.
A Compagnie des Alpes project
In all, four Compagnie des Alpes’ resorts have come together to create a forest in the Savoie region. In conjunction with Val d’Isère Téléphériques, the ski areas of Serre Chevalier, Méribel and Tignes have proven their commitment to preserve the environment and combat global warming by creating a 2,000-tree forest on a piece of land in the Domaniale de la Chautagne forest in Chindrieux.
What will the long term benefits of this project be?
Planting this forest will:
- offset 1, 158 000 km worth of carbon emissions (created by driving a car)
- produce 8,000 months’ worth of oxygen
- create 2,000 hours of work
- establish 6,000 animal habitats
Each employee can take a look at his or her account to keep a track of how their tree is helping the environment:
